Monteroni di Lecce · alle porte del baroccoMonteroni di Lecce · at the gates of the Baroque

Una casa forgiata
con passione.
A house forged
with passion.

Where the blacksmith once bent iron, travellers are now welcomed. Seventy-four square metres of a real home — not a hotel room — ten minutes from Lecce and its Baroque.

Il nomeThe name

Dove il ferro si faceva forma.Where iron was given its form.

Every house carries the trade of those who lived in it. Here it was the blacksmith’s: the fire, the anvil, the iron that yields only to those who know how to wait. We kept that name because it tells of a way of doing things — slow, precise, made by hand.

It is the same care with which we welcome today: no haste, no formula. A whole house, handed over to you as one hands over a job well done.

Lecce

La Firenze del Sud.The Florence of the South.

A Baroque city kissed by sun and sea, between the white of the local stone and the colours of the earth. Ten minutes from the house.

Columns, arches, rose windows; and then the little squares, the unexpected alleys, the noble palazzi. Lecce is studded with wonders and stands among the finest cities of art in the peninsula.

It astonishes with the remains of Roman rule and with the exuberance of the seventeenth-century Baroque — known here as «Lecce Baroque», a unique expression of a popular language with Mediterranean roots. In summer, sunset is the finest hour: the light sets the monuments ablaze as few other hours can.

Art, food, hospitality. The heel of the Italian boot, set between the Ionian to the west and the Adriatic to the east.

Chiese paleocristiane, frantoi ipogei, grotte marine, cortili e giardini segreti, castelli e botteghe artigiane.A magical land of ancient rhythms, which become contemporary music at the Notte della Taranta, and of olive landscapes where old masserie stand. Early Christian churches, underground oil mills, sea caves, courtyards and secret gardens, castles and artisan workshops.

And then the beaches: crystalline sea and emerald shades, coves, bays and caves, sandy and rocky seabeds. A paradise of inexhaustible beauty, kissed by sun and wind.
